Read "Ag-gag" is Bait and We're not Falling for it
I agree with the six basic principles below and commit to working toward No Cruelty to Film in agriculture in my state.
1) Animal protectionists should spend as many resources solving the problem of criminal animal cruelty in agriculture as they do filming it. Protectionists should work with legislators to authorize and fund multi-disciplinary studies in response to undercover campaigns that pinpoint what went wrong and why.
2) Animal protectionists should resist the urge to exaggerate and offend in the context of an ag-gag debate and, instead, invite rational conversations that draw powerful, credible people in, toward solutions.
3) Agriculturists should recognize that consumers want transparency and modify their business plans accordingly. Agriculturists should work to overcome barriers to transparency and find ways for the public to experience the progress.
4) Agriculturists should do a 360-degree audit of their company culture to identify areas of apathy to animals and develop a plan to redirect the culture to one of respect toward animals.
5) Legislators should initiate and advance working groups that study incidents of cruelty in agriculture in their state. Legislators should seek policy changes from the results of this study.
6) Legislators should discourage further contention between agriculture and animal protection groups and, instead, bring them together to see that ending the cruelty protects agriculture and animals.
